MAYA - 'V' SHAPE (frequently called 'athletic')

You are broad-shouldered with proportionately narrow hips and a less defined waistline. Weight gain is usually balanced.

  • Broad shoulders
  • Subtle waist
  • Slim hips
  • Straight body shape, often have long legs

Focus: Balance your proportions by adding emphasis to your hips and playing down your broad shoulders.

Look for: Soft styling and drapey fabrics to add softness to your figure.  Wear belts to create curves and shape.  You can afford to wear hip pockets – they will help balance your hips and shoulders.

Avoid: Three quarter sleeves, shapeless shifts and wide accentuated shoulders – you want to create the illusion of a curvaceous form.

Shirts and Tops

As you have “coathanger” shoulders raglan, dolman and kimono sleeves look particularly good on you – they also make your shoulders less obvious. When choosing shirts opt for wide collars to break up your shoulder width. You’ll also find long sleeves draw attention away from your shoulder by taking the eye down the body.

Jackets

Give your straight lines softer curves by choosing jackets which are fitted at the waist and fuller over the hips, and choose single breasted styles to narrow your shoulders.

Trousers

Show off your long legs and emphasize your slim hips in narrow or straight leg trousers. You can wear almost any shape of trouser, including cropped pants.

Skirts

Because of your small hips you can wear most skirt styles, and unlike many shapes, you can carry added volume through the hips with ease. Wear full, fluted, flared and tulip styles with confidence.
