Nature’s preferred feminine shape. Your shoulders are proportionately narrower than your hips and thighs – you carry weight in the lower part of your body.
Focus: Balance your lower body shape by strengthening your shoulderline.
Look for: Shaped styles and belts to show off your waistline. Wide necklines and set-in sleeves to add width to your shoulders – cheat with soft shoulder pads!
Avoid: Pencil skirts, unless you have a pert rear. Trousers that are tapered – they will draw attention to your hips. Raglan, dolman and kimono sleeves – they lack shoulder definition.
Shirts and Tops
Broaden your shoulders by wearing set-in sleeves with puff or gathered details, and opt for slashed or wide set necklines. Layer knit tops to give a longer leg line.
Jackets
Choose styles that nip in at your waist – single breasted with two or three buttons, and hip or waist pockets that draw the eye upwards. Try a lighter coloured jacket with darker skirts or trousers.
Trousers
Straight leg rather than tapered styles draw attention away from your thighs. Select trousers without waistbands, or waistbands that curve into the waist.
Skirts
As your hip usually tapers away from your waist, keep skirts slim over the hip with any fullness starting at the top of the leg. A-line, fluted and lower pleat styles suit you best.
