Many women have this figure shape. Your waist looks proportionately larger than your bust and hips. Weight tends to accumulate through the center of the body.
Focus: Accentuate the narrowest parts of your body to give the illusion of shape. Create strong vertical lines in your dress style to slim your body.
Look for: Styles with shaping under the bust to give your body shape. Mix plains, prints and textures to break up your body. Uneven hems and asymmetrical lines to give you a longer legline.
Avoid: Fabrics and designs which add unnecessary bulk. Try and stay clear of overly long tops unless they are cleverly shaped as this can shorten your legs. Avoid very short skirts as you can look top heavy.
Shirts and Tops
Wear deep open necklines to elongate your neck and show off your fantastic bustline. Look for details such as soft ruching across the stomach or shaping under the bust which is your slimmest point – the empire line is currently very popular. Wearing layers in similar tonings is flattering and ¾ length sleeves show off slim wrists.
Jackets
Slimline jackets are best for you – you don’t want to add width to your shape with bulky fabrics or full styles. Try longline and softly tailored jackets with an open V neck. Buy jackets to fit your shoulders not your torso and wear unbuttoned.
Trousers
As a general rule, flat front, wider leg trousers with a deep waistband and side zip are most suited to your shape – the leg width shouldn’t be overpowering, just enough to skim over your tum, bottom and thighs.
Skirts
Always opt for styles which are slim fitting through the hips, with pleats or flare starting below the hipline. Asymmetrical hemlines or layers take the focus away from your middle and elongate the body.
